Almost every woman I know has read Proverbs 31 and thought, “I can never do all this!” I’ve said it myself more than once. But becoming a woman of God is not about checking off characteristics in Proverbs. It’s about finding wisdom in those verses and allowing them to mold us as we walk through daily life.
We must first become women of God for the very purpose we were created: to glorify our Father in Heaven. A woman of God is one who has a relationship with Him. A godly woman is one whose life reflects His character. Both should be the desire of every Christian woman as we strive to live lives pleasing to the Lord.
This is not about being perfect. If it were, I most certainly would not be writing this. But I do have the desire to be a woman of God and to be a godly woman. It is a daily process of giving my life to Jesus, allowing Him to mold me into the best daughter of the King I can be.
Being a woman of God doesn’t mean we are godly at every moment. It means we are growing and learning through His Word, obeying Him so others can see Him in us.
**John 1:12** — “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
First, a woman of God is a daughter of God. This is possible by accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior and having a relationship with Him. *(For more on salvation, see [this article](https://www.crosswalk.com/faith/spiritual-life/what-is-salvation-also-why-it-s-needed-and-how-to-get-it.html).)*
**John 3:16** reminds us: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
When we put our trust in Jesus Christ, we become new creations. The desire to become the woman God created us to be comes alive, and our spiritual journey begins.
**2 Corinthians 5:17** — “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
God gives us the Holy Spirit, who begins transforming us to be more like Jesus. **John 14:15** says, “If you love me, keep my commands.” And **2 Corinthians 3:18** reminds us that we are “being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory.”
So we see: a woman of God is first a woman saved by Jesus Christ, submitting to the Holy Spirit within her.
“Take a moment today to reflect: What does being a woman of God mean in your life?
